Golf vs Your Other Sports

What's the Same. What's Different.

The Splash flow is identical. The golf format has a few things worth knowing before you create.

Same entry & payout flow
Splash collects fees, handles payouts automatically. You share a link. Same as NFL and basketball.
Same live leaderboard
Real-time scoring, commissioner dashboard, invite management. Everything you already know.
NEW
Tier picks instead of brackets or picks
Instead of picking teams, everyone drafts one golfer from each tier (Elite → Dark Horses). Lowest combined strokes wins.
NEW
Drop Worst Golfer setting
Golf has cut days — ~25% of the field misses the cut by Friday. The "Drop 1" setting protects your players from a bad lower-tier pick killing their weekend.
Picks lock automatically
Locks at Thursday's first tee time, same as your other contests. No manual closing needed.

3 Decisions. That's It.

You already know how Splash works. For golf, there are only 3 things that are different from your other contests.

01
Pick Your Tiers
Choose 4, 5, or 6 tiers. 5 is the sweet spot — enough strategy for golf fans without overwhelming casual players. Splash auto-assigns golfers by world ranking.
★ Recommend: 5 Tiers
02
Enable Drop 1
Turn on "Drop Worst Golfer." About 25% of the Masters field misses the cut Friday. This setting keeps everyone in it through Sunday and prevents early check-outs.
★ Recommend: Drop 1
03
Set Your Fee
Same as always. $20–$50 is the sweet spot for most groups. Splash collects, holds, and pays out automatically. Splash deducts 7.5% for processing. You get 5% back as commissioner rewards.
★ Most Popular: $25
Golf Commissioner Tips

What Experienced Commissioners Know

Coming from NFL or basketball? Here's what catches people off guard about running a golf contest.

Timing
Send the link early in the week
Unlike weekly NFL picks, the Masters is a one-shot event. Your group needs time to research golfers. Invite by Tuesday — picks lock Thursday morning. Don't send it Wednesday night.
Group Size
Golf is great for larger pools
Because everyone picks from the same field, golf scales better than survivor. 20–50 players is ideal. The tier system creates natural differentiation even in large groups.
Engagement
The Masters runs all weekend
Unlike one-day bracket events, Masters scoring plays out over 4 rounds. Keep the chat active Thursday–Sunday — leaderboards shift dramatically after the cut Friday.
Payout
Top 3 works better than winner-take-all
Golf contests tend to have more variance than NFL. A long shot can shoot up the leaderboard on Sunday. Top 3 at 50/30/20 keeps multiple people invested through the final round.
Commissioner Rewards — Same as Your Other Contests

You Earn 5% on Every Entry.
Still.

Commissioner Rewards work exactly the same way in golf as they do in NFL or March Madness. Splash deducts 7.5% for payment processing and admin, plus 5% comes back to you for bringing your group to the platform.

The more entries you drive, the more you earn. A 30-person Masters pool at $25/entry puts $37.50 back in your pocket automatically when the tournament ends.

Example: 30 entries × $25
Total collected $750
Platform fee (7.5%) −$56.25
Your reward (5%) +$37.50
Prize pool $656.25

Questions From Returning Commissioners

Things You Might Wonder

You can use your previous entry fee and payout structure as a starting point. The contest creation form will show a "Use settings from your last contest" option if you're logged in. Some settings (like tiers and Drop Worst) are golf-specific and will default to the recommended values for new commissioners.
Each contest has its own invite link, so yes — you'll share a new link for this contest. Your previous entrants from past contests are not automatically enrolled. Just copy the new contest link and drop it wherever your group communicates. Most commissioners just text or Slack it.
Instead of picking one team per week, each player in your contest picks one golfer from each tier — a single decision before the tournament starts. There's no weekly interaction. Picks are locked Thursday, then everyone just watches the tournament and checks the leaderboard. Simpler in some ways, more strategic in others since you're drafting a whole lineup at once.
Yes, you want it. In golf, roughly 25% of the field misses the cut after Friday's second round. Without Drop Worst, one unlucky lower-tier pick can completely eliminate a player from contention by Friday afternoon — which kills the fun for the rest of the weekend. Drop 1 keeps everyone invested through Sunday. It's standard for golf contests.
Exactly the same. Splash deducts 7.5% from the prize pool for payment processing and admin. If you opt in to Commissioner Rewards, 5% comes back to you as commissioner. Your winners receive 87.5% of the prize pool. It's automatic and applies to any contest type — NFL, golf, basketball, or any future sport. You earn on every entry your contest attracts.
Yes. Your Splash account is sport-agnostic. You can run Masters now and come back for the PGA Championship in May or the US Open in June. Each contest is independent with its own invite link, settings, and prize pool.
